Our 2022 Chardonnay from Los Carneros is all about terroir.
2022 was the perfect vintage and the blocks we work with in Los Carneros were a dream for Camille Benitah, our winemaker.
Blended with 70% Chardonnay from a site on the Sonoma side of the AVA, the shallow soil and and sandy loam brought us a very serious, straight, somewhat austere chardonnay. Perfect, but a bit "buttoned up". 30% Chardonnay from a site in Mayacamas foothills with it's rocky, volcanic soils produced a richer, deeper experience in the fruit flavors and "the fun", but needed the structure that came from the Sonoma block.
Cam found the magic in this blend and the symbiotic energies give us an beautifully complex wine. The rich, deep golden color shimmers in the glass. Stone fruits of nectarine, apricot, and pear dance with aromatics of lychee and honeydew. The fruit flavors mirror the aromatics and the creamy texture, helped along by malolactic fermentation is luxurious and exquisite on the palate. The finish is satisfyingly long, with hints of butterscotch, toasted nuts, and spice. The balance is perfection.
