2019 Montesquieu Los Carneros Pinot Noir Reserve

$65.00

This wine is not just a drink; it’s an experience, showcasing the elegance and complexity that Pinot Noir can offer. It all starts in the vineyard, 30-40 year old located on the western side of the Napa Carneros region. This area is renowned for its cool climate and unique terroir, which allows the grapes to develop rich flavors while maintaining their acidity.

  • Soil: The sandy loam soil here contributes to the wine's minerality and finesse. Older vines naturally produce lower yields, which means more concentrated flavors in every grape.

  • Clone 777: known for its ability to produce wines with great depth and complexity. This clone brings forth dark fruit characteristics and a balance of acidity

We used open top fermentation with 2 gentle manual punchdowns a day during fermentation, allowing us to extract the best fruit characteristics without over-extracting tannins, resulting in a smooth, velvety texture. The wine was structured and concentrated enough to allow us to give it even more time in the special French oak Burgundy barrels - a full 30 months! The extended aging allowed the wine to develop even more complexity and depth, integrating the oak flavors beautifully while enhancing its aromatic profile.

In the glass, you’ll notice a beautiful ruby red hue, rimmed with a brick undertone. The nose is inviting with aromas of ripe cherry, raspberry, rose petals and violets (thank you 777!) and hints of forest floor, complemented by subtle notes of baking spice and vanilla from the oak. It is a perfect example of elegance and balance. Flavors of dark cherry, plum, and a touch of earthy minerality, leading to a smooth, lingering finish. The tannins are superbly structured but still soft enough to provide an incredibly compelling and gorgeous mouthfeel that will leave you reaching for another sip!

  • Roasted Duck: The richness of roasted duck complements the wine’s fruitiness beautifully.
  • Grilled Salmon: The acidity and fruit flavors work harmoniously with the fatty richness of the salmon.
  • Mushroom Risotto: Earthy mushrooms elevate the wine’s complexity, making for a delightful pairing.
